The Symphonic Orchestra
The North Iceland Symphonic Orchestra (Sinfóníuhljómsveit Norðurlands) is a modern professional orchestra with a project orientated view. Founded in 1993, it has grown rapidly in recent years as a part of Akureyri Cultural Company’s operations. Whilst placing a great value on the performing of classical music, the orchestra has in recent years specialised in the recordings of music for films as well as promote the debut of new Icelandic orchestrated music. The North Iceland Symphonic Orchestra breaks down the barriers between music genres and aims to bridge the gap between the audience and the performers by co-operating with musicians from various corners of the music industry.
The remarkable prosperity of the orchestra is testimony to it’s success, both with the audience as well as with artists and musicians, as a vibrant source of entertainment, innovation and employment.
